Elias started playing the trumpet aged 7, learning first through Hampshire Music Service with
Dave Smith, and more recently with Julian Poore. He was a member of the National
Children’s Orchestra from the Under 11s through to the Main Orchestra, before joining
Hampshire County Youth Orchestra, where he is principal trumpet. He is also a member of
the National Youth Orchestra, and begins his studies at the Royal College of Music with a full
scholarship in September.
Ben started playing the trombone aged 8 and began ensemble playing with his school and
Romsey Area Youth Bands. At age 13 he became principal trombone of the Hampshire
County Youth Orchestra and later joined the Hampshire County Youth Band and Hampshire
Jazz Centre. With these groups he regularly performs in venues throughout Hampshire
including the Anvil in Basingstoke – this included a performance with the renowned Cory
Band as part of the Hampshire Youth Bands 60th Anniversary Concert. In November 2022
Ben performed at The Royal Albert Hall in the Music for Youth Proms where he was the
featured soloist as part of The Mountbatten Big Band. Ben has also performed in the
Montreux Jazz Festival, Swanage Jazz Festival and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
