Tahee Kim – Cello and Pan Xiao – Piano
We welcome Tahee and Pan from The Royal Academy of Music who will peform a programme of music by Benjamin Britten and Sergei Prokofiev.
Tahee Kim
BMus (Hons), MMus, Master of Teaching and Learning
Korean-Kiwi cellist Tahee Kim has performed and participated in various solo, chamber and orchestral collaborations with international artists, such as Clio Gould, Torleif Thedéen, Gabriel Schwabe and Jonathan Morton. She was invited to play chamber music at the Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, alongside Philippe Graffin, and Martti Rousi. Her trio, the ‘Korimako Trio’ won the New Zealand Royal Overseas League (ROSL) Arts Chamber Music Scholarship of $50,000, and were invited to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, and play in concert halls, such as St Martin-in the-Fields, among others across the United Kingdom.
During her studies at the University of Auckland, Tahee was a recipient of multiple scholarships completing her undergraduate and postgraduate studies with full funding from the University. She was awarded the Arts and Cultural award, the Carl and Alberta Rosenfeldt Prize, with her trio and quartet winning the Auckland Chamber Music Society competition for two consecutive years. Additionally, during her studies, she was awarded the Donny Charitable Trust travelling scholarship where she was given the opportunity to experience performing and learning in Berlin, Rutesheim, and Cologne.
In 2024, Tahee was selected as a fellow for the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, where she spent three months playing alongside the orchestra. In the same year, as she started her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, her piano trio at the Academy were
successful applicants for the Wigmore ‘For Crying Out Loud’ series, and have been invited to take the stage at Wigmore Hall in May 2025. Further, in 2024, Tahee auditioned for the London Symphony Orchestra Pathways Scheme, and as a result, she is now being mentored by the LSO for the next two years.
Before coming to the UK, Tahee enjoyed performing the cello every Sunday morning to the homeless community in Auckland through her church community, and playing for the elderly in rest homes. She hopes to inspire audiences, and take music to those who cannot access it
Pan Xiao
Chinese American pianist Pan Xiao has embarked on a multifaceted career as a soloist,
collaborator, and pedagogue. Raised in Colorado, Pan was most recently based in Chicago, and served on the accompanying faculties at Northwestern University and Loyola Academy. Among other accomplishments, Pan has won awards from Chicago’s Musicians Club of Women, the Music Teachers’ National Association, and the International Institute for Young Musicians. Additionally she has soloed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and the Breckenridge Festival Orchestra, and has given performances at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Chamber Mondays Concert Series and the WFMT Bach Keyboard Festival.
Pan holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Northwestern University and is currently at the Royal Academy of Music to continue her post-graduate studies in Ensemble Piano. Pan is also a graduate of Northwestern’s dual-degree program, having earned bachelor’s degrees in both piano performance and chemistry.
