Megan Clarke – Cello Marcus Sadler – Piano from The Royal Academy of Music
Programme to include the Sonata for Cello and Piano by Rachmaninov
Megan Clarke is currently studying with Hannah Roberts at the Royal Academy of Music. Before that, she attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department for ten years where she studied with Alexander Boyarsky and Leandro Silvera. During her time at the RCMJD, she performed a recital at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room to a sold-out audience, and she was awarded Highly Commended in the RCMJD Peter Morrison Concerto Competition. Megan also performed in the RCM Young Artists Showcase as a ‘leading soloist’ of the RCMJD.
An avid chamber musician, Megan frequently performs and competes with her string quartet formed at the Royal Academy of Music. In October 2025, Megan was invited with her string quartet on the Sir Elton John Exchange Programme to undertake an exchange with University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In March 2025, her quartet was awarded Very Highly Commended in the Wolfe Wolfinsohn String Quartet Prize at RAM and in May 2025, her quintet was awarded Very Highly Commended in the RAM Historical Women Composers Prize.
In February 2026, her string quartet was invited to Minterne House, where they received
masterclasses from Guy Johnston, Magnus Johnston and Marije Johnston.
As a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain from 2021-2023, she played in prestigious venues around the UK, including at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, at the Royal Festival Hall, at Saffron Hall, and at the Barbican Concert Hall. In addition, in the 2022-2023 season, she took on the role of String Leader with the NYOGB. Megan was principal cellist of the Royal College of Music Junior Department Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Last year, she was principal cellist of the RAM String Orchestra led by Magnus Johnston and Simon Crawford-Phillips. She has played in symphony orchestras conducted by internationally renowned conductors such as John Wilson and Sir Mark Elder.
In Summer 2022, Megan studied at the Tanglewood Festival on the Young Artists Orchestra.
Markus Sadler is a British-German pianist and harpsichordist studying at the Royal
College of Music as an undergraduate scholar, supported by the South Square Trust
Award. He studies piano with Gordon Fergus-Thompson and harpsichord with Jane
Chapman.
In 2025, Markus won the RCM Concerto Competition and was also awarded both the
Hopkinson Gold Medal and Esther Fisher Prize for the best undergraduate
performance in the RCM Chappell Medal Competition. In October 2026, he will
perform Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 at the RCM.
Equally active as a soloist and chamber musician Markus has worked in
masterclasses with Sir Stephen Hough, Noriko Ogawa, Peter Donohoe and Ulrich
Koella. Chamber highlights include performances at the Ticino Musica Festival in
Lugano in 2024 and 2025, as well as appearances with the Sacconi Quartet. He was
recently awarded the Robert Turnbull Foundation Award to work at the 2026
Oxenfoord International Vocal Summer School.
As a solo harpsichordist and continuo player, Markus has performed in
masterclasses with Skip Sempé, Steven Devine and Sophie Yates. Later this year,
he will give a complete performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations as part of the
Music at St Peter’s series in Dorchester.
Before entering the RCM, he studied at the Royal College of Music Junior
Department, where he won prizes for solo and concerto playing. He also studied
trumpet with Philip Bainbridge and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of
Great Britain’s trumpet section in 2022 and 2023.Program in the USA. Whilst she was there, she was principal cellist and she received a masterclass from Blaise Déjardin. Megan has received masterclasses from other acclaimed musicians, including Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Rachel Helleur-Simcock, Natalie Clein, Alexander Baillie and Nicola Benedetti. She has also received lessons from Steven Doane, Sung-Won Yang, Anthony Marwood and Lawrence Power.
