A whistle stop journey through the history of music, with James McConnel
James takes us on a musical journey from the stone age to the digital age, with lots of audio examples – for instance the sound of a forty-thousand year old bone flute, all sorts of drums etc, then choirs, orchestras etc, tracing the development of music (and communication) through the ancient Greeks, the Syrians, then western music, right the way up to the present day.
Be prepared for lots of audience participation!!
James studied organ, flute and composition at the Royal College of Music in London, and later at St Catherine’s College, Oxford with Stephen Sondheim. He has written extensively for the theatre, including incidental music for over twenty plays, plus stage musicals. He has composed the music for over 100 television documentaries and dramas.
